Strengthening Agricultural Development: The Partnership Between MCODE and PASS Trust

At the heart of Tanzania’s agricultural transformation lies the powerful collaboration between the Movement for Community Development (MCODE) and PASS Trust. This partnership exemplifies how organizations can work together to create lasting, positive change for smallholder farmers and agribusinesses across the country.

PASS Trust was established in 2000 under the Danish Government’s Agricultural Support Program and began operations in 2002. By 2007, following significant achievements, PASS Trust was officially registered with the mission of empowering Tanzania’s agricultural, livestock, and fisheries sectors. Their primary focus is on providing credit guarantees and agribusiness development services to entrepreneurs and small financial institutions. As a unique institution under the National Economic Empowerment Council (NEEC), PASS Trust plays a pivotal role in ensuring access to finance for those involved in agribusiness value chains.

PASS Trust’s dedication to Inclusive Green Growth (IGG) aligns seamlessly with MCODE’s vision of a well-organized, healthy, and wealthy farming society. IGG promotes economic growth that is both environmentally sustainable and socially inclusive, ensuring that economic development benefits all members of society, especially those living in poverty or facing social exclusion.

MCODE and PASS Trust have forged a strong relationship based on their shared commitment to uplifting Tanzania’s agricultural sector. Together, they have mobilized farmers into producer groups, providing them with essential extension services, linking them to financial resources, and supporting them in collective marketing efforts. This collaboration has not only increased the incomes of smallholder farmers but has also significantly reduced poverty among beneficiaries.

By working together, MCODE and PASS Trust ensure that smallholder farmers receive the support they need to thrive. Whether through access to credit guarantees, technical training, or market linkages, this partnership continues to foster sustainable development and economic empowerment in Tanzania’s rural communities.

As MCODE and PASS Trust continue to strengthen their partnership, the focus remains on sustainability and inclusive growth. Both organizations understand that long-term success requires a balanced approach that considers economic, environmental, and social factors. By promoting environmentally friendly farming practices, ensuring fair access to financial resources, and empowering marginalized groups, MCODE and PASS Trust are paving the way for a brighter future for Tanzania’s agricultural sector.
